Benefits of Lye Soap If you have never tried natural soap made from lye, you are missing a great experience. Natural soap leaves you soft and clean in a way that commercial soaps never can. The pH is better for your skin (especially women), as it is slightly basic, just like your body, rather than acidic, like most commercial soap. Our soaps are super sudsy and gentle! Old fashioned lye soaps had a reputation for being unpredictable. They were sometimes harsh due to a lack of standardization of lye as well as poor understanding of how different oils reacted with the lye. Those issues are tightly controlled in our soap making process. We never have any unreacted lye in our soaps, so we guarantee gentleness. Our soaps rinse very clean, so the fragrance acts as aromatherapy in the shower, rather than as a perfume. You will not smell like our soap as long as you rinse. Our soaps do not contain any preservatives, but they will still last as long as a commercial bar of soap as long as you avoid unnecessary contact with water (use a well draining soap dish.) We scent our soaps as heavily as possible without disturbing the chemistry of the soap. Getting your soap wet will renew the fragrance. Our soaps NEVER include animal fats, and which vegetable oils we use depends on the purpose of the recipe. All of our soaps are VEGAN, except those that contain honey, beeswax, goat’s milk or silk. Every formula of our soaps contain at least one oil to pamper your skin—jojoba, sweet almond, olive, avocado, cocoa butter, or shea butter. Our soaps are made from scratch! No chemically separated glycerin which is a common ingredient in “melt and pour” soaps. Lye soaps do not shrivel and dry out like glycerin soaps, so they make excellent displays and air fresheners.
